Here is the worst part of the rail. When the wheels hit these "splinters", they would snap and vibrate back and forth, accounting for all of the noise.

Someone working for Caltrain has a sense of humor. This container used for storing welding equipment is painted just like one of Caltrain's.

This telephone pole was the victim of a slide in Cuesta Pass. In order to keep the weight from breaking the wires, the pole had to be chopped.
