Stenner Creek Trestle is silhouetted in this time-exposure as the I-OACI streaks into the sunrise.

SP SD70M 9802 and EMD SD70M 7007 scream as they tug a manifest through the horseshoe curve and up into the Cuesta Pass.

Here is the Union Pacific shield on the door of the crew office in San Luis Obispo. Apparently some staunch UTU or BLE member decided to slap the "we strike back" sticker on top of it. The sticker was gone the next day.
January 1999
The "Coast Cans" pause in San Luis Obispo on a Friday night after coming through Cuesta Pass. This is a crew-change point for this train.
February 1999
A Union Pacific SD40-2 and two leased EMD SD70M's (in the solid maroon scheme) hustle an eastbound manifest past the San Francisco Bay on the Mulford Line.
March 1999
The South City Switcher leans into a curve heading for Bayshore as it bolts out from underneath Highway 101.
April 1999
After switching reefers at a local Bayshore industry, the South City Switcher waddles back with empties on the fragile track.
April 1999
A foreign locomotive on a strange little train. This is Norfolk Southern GP50 7048 trailing SP 7459 on a train containing a few empty TTX 85' flat cars and a boxcar. Note the high short-hood on the NS unit, a pretty common feature on NS locomotives.
May 7, 1999
A UP GP38 shoves a string of boxcars past the old Newhall Tower at College Park, north of San Jose. The tower was destroyed in a fire caused by transients some years ago.
November 1999
I found this "thing" at the old Lenzen Street facility one morning when I passed by on my last train of the day (morning, really). Decided I had to go back and take a photo of it, because heck, what is it?
